Modi puts BJP MPs on neo mission - Fight Leprosy and Tuberculosis

New Delhi, Jul 16 (UNI) Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Tuesday urged the BJP lawmakers to rededicate themselves to social service in a mission mode and gave them a clarion call to fight leprosy and tuberculosis.
"Prime Minister Modiji today gave a clarion call to BJP MPs at the weekly meeting of the BJP Parliamentary Party to work on mission mode and in groups to eradicate leprosy and tuberculosis," Parliamentary Affairs Minister Pralhad Joshi later told reporters.
He said the Prime Minister told the saffron party lawmakers that as against the global deadline of 2030 to eradicate tuberculosis, India has fixed 2025 as deadline time.
In March this year, the Prime Minister had said that India has set a target for complete elimination of Tuberculosis by 2025.
Launching the TB Free India Campaign at ‘Delhi End TB Summit’, Mr Modi also has said his government is implementing a national strategic plan to end the tuberculosis by 2025 and also provided funding of over Rs12,000 crore for the next three years.
Since state governments play an important role in this as health is a state subject, Mr Modi has said that he has personally written to the state governments to join centre's mission.
Mr Joshi said the Prime Minister gave the example of Mahatma Gandhi who had once on invited to 'inaugurate' a leprosy hospital had said, "I would like to come put the shutters down of that hospital".
"That was Gandhiji's thought. He strongly believed that India should be leprosy free and therefore this can be our mission," Mr Modi reportedly told his party colleagues.
"This he (Prime Minister) said can be done in addition to the parliamentary job of elected MPs," a party source said.
Sources further said the meeting also focused on the water crisis in the country and the Prime Minister in this context maintained that the lawmakers from the saffron outfit can "sit with officials in their constituencies" and try to work towards resolving these problems.
The Prime Minister specially felt that the elected party Members of Parliament from both the Houses should also take up projects in underdeveloped regions by coordination with local authorities.
At the meeting, Mr Modi urged the party lawmakers to be sincere about their roster duty in both the Houses of Parliament and to take the legislative role sincerely.
In the past as well, Mr Modi has expressed unhappiness over the absence of the MPs.
