Modi, Putin inaugurate civil works for 3rd, 4th reactors in KKNPP

Tirunelveli, Tamil Nadu, Oct 15 (UNI) Prime Minister Narendra Modi and Russian President Vladimir Putin today formally laid the foundation for units three and four at Kudankulam Nuclear Power project (KKNPP) in Kudankulam village at Southern district of Tirunelveli in Tamil Nadu.
''The first pour of concrete for the third and fourth VVER-1000 type Pressurised Water Reactors belonging to the Light Water Category each with a capacity of 1,000 Mega Watts was carried out this afternoon,'' a senior official of KKNP said, after Mr Modi and Mr Putin laid the foundation for the civil works jointly through video conferencing this afternoon from Goa, on the sidelines of the ongoing eighth annual BRICS summit.
At KKNPP site in Kudankulam, Nuclear Power Corporation of India Ltd (NPCIL) Chairman and Managing Director Sathish Kumar Sharma and Valery Limarenko, President of Atomstroy export Group of Companies – the engineering and construction division of Russian State Atomic Energy Corporation, in the presence of senior scientists and technocrats participated in the ceremony of first pour of concrete to the foundation of Units 3 and 4.
