Modi Govt wrecked India's economy: Chidambaram

New Delhi, Dec 14 (UNI) Taking a dig at the Centre, senior Congress leader P Chidambaram on Saturday said the Narendra Modi-led government has wrecked India's economy over the last six months.

Addressing Congress' 'Bharat Bachao' rally at Delhi's Ramlila Maidan, Mr Chidambaram said, 'Yesterday, Finance Minister said, everything's alright, we are on top of the world. The only thing she didn't say was 'achhe din aane wale hain'.'

"In six months, the Narendra Modi government has wrecked India's economy. Yet ministers are completely clueless,' the former Finance Minister said.

Madhya Pradesh Chief Minister Kamal Nath, who was also present in the rally, said, 'Modi ji talks of nationalism. The picture of the country is clear in front of the people. I challenge them to name any freedom fighter of theirs. Congress has a history of sacrificing for the nation. They cannot teach us a lesson on nationalism.'

Chhattisgarh CM Bhupesh Baghel too joined the party's rally and said, 'BJP only knows how to burn, to hurt and to divide. They want to set fire to the country but us Congress people will give up our lives for the nation.'

Addressing the rally, Rajasthan's Deputy CM Sachin Pilot said the attention of people should be on issues that matter to them.

"The economy has almost come to a standstill. Job losses are at a record high and there is inflation. The government has failed in counter-measures," Mr Pilot said.

'The slogan of saving India should go out from Ramlila Maidan to the entire country. It is the responsibility of all of us,' he added.

Former Lok Sabha MP Jyotiraditya Scindia said, 'Not revenge, but change is extremely necessary.'

Top brass of the grand old party had gathered at the Ramila Maidan that is also being said to be a display of strength and integrity of the party, while the national capital has to go in for assembly polls in the beginning of the coming year.

State Bhawans and other areas in the Lutyens Delhi were seen coloured in the grand old party's flags at various places as the supporters gathered from across the country to attend the 'Bharat Bachao' rally here at the Ramlila Maidan where interim president of Congress Sonia Gandhi, former Prime Minister Dr Manmohan Singh, former party president Rahul Gandhi and other senior leaders were present.

Huge billboards and signages were seen across the city especially in the Lutyens zone about 'Bharat Bachao' rally that also highlighted the problems of the nation.
