Modi Govt is the 'best platform' to work for Andhra, says Y S Chowdary

New Delhi, Jun 20 (UNI) The former TDP leaders and those who joined the BJP rank and file on Thursday said their decision to join the ruling party in the centre is to pursue a politics of "cooperation and coordination rather than competition and confrontation".

Describing the BJP and the NDA government headed by Prime Minister Narendra Modi as the 'best platform' vis-a-vis protecting the larger interest of Andhra Pradesh, former Union Minister Y S Chowdary said: "This is the best platform we thought (about Modi government) to work with cooperation and coordination rather than competition and confrontation".

Talking to reporters in presence of BJP working president J P Nadda at the party headquarters immediately after he and three of his colleagues joined the BJP, Mr Chowdary said: "The mood of the nation is clearly shown in recent elections. So after that we should join in building this great nation

that's one of the reasons (to join BJP)".

Mr Chowdary, who quit Modi government in March 2018 after TDP walked out of the NDA, said "particularly for me as I also served as minister for three and half years under Prime Minister Modi" it was very much clear that Mr Modi's government has been doing well.

"..........so this decision has been taken mainly to join in building the nation and particularly for the development of Andhra Pradesh," he said adding obviously the state of Andhra Pradesh has suffered

"for various reasons".

".......we have suffered and we want to emphasise on all issues raised in the Andhra Pradesh Reorganisation Act to be implemented as early as possible".

Mr Chowdary and three of his colleagues in Rajya Sabha C M Ramesh, Garikapati Mohan Rao and T G Venkatesh met here and adopted a resolution to write to the Rajya Sabha chairman M Venkaiah Naidu to allow the merger.

Later, after meeting BJP chief Amit Shah and Vice President Naidu, they joined BJP at the saffron party's headquarters in presence of BJP's newly appointed working president J P Nadda.

BJP at present is the single largest party with 71 MPs in the 245-member Upper House of Parliament.

TDP has three Lok Sabha MPs and its strength in Rajya Sabha would be now reduced to two.
