Modi govt has rehashed old Cong schemes with new titles, presenting them as its own 'baby', says Cong

New Delhi, Sept 20 (UNI) Reprimanding the Narendra Modi led government with 'adopting ' all the UPA era government schemes as its own, Congress today charged that as many as 23 developmental projects initiated by the previous Manmohan Singh government have been repackaged, renamed and presented to the people in the name of 'progress' by Mr Modi. Addressing mediapersons, Congress spokesperson,Rajiv Shukla said," Except the "Demonetisation "move, all schemes are like "old wine in a new bottle".During the Manmohan Singh reign , the same BJP stalwarts used to criticize these very schemes in and out but after coming to power, it is music to their ears.' 'The UPA schemes have now become NDA schemes with just the titles changed. So "Indira Awaas Yojana" initiated in 1985 has become " Pradhan Mantri Awas Yojana-gramin". "Nirmal bharat Abhiyan" goes on to become "Swachh bharat Mission". "National manufacturing Policy " takes the shape of much popular "Make in India". "No-Frills Accounts- Swaabhiman-" gets moulded into "Jan Dhan Yojana"."National e-governance Plan" gets the making of "Digital India" and the much touted "Beti Bachao , beti padhao" was previously "National Girl child day programme, " he said. Former minister of Planning and Programme Implementation, Mr Shukla stated, " It was the UPA government which had introduced the Aadhar card scheme and made 65 crore beneficiaries in its implementation stage. But this plan too was vehemently opposed by the BJP which said that terrorists too will get to avail of it and thus was a security threat to the country. But after holding office, Mr Modi made Aadhar card mandatory for every citizen.' He said, "except the " demonetisation" move , nothing can they say it is their own , which of course turned out to be financial Pokharan for the country." 'Even on GST , this government did a turnaround. Earlier during Congress rule , for five years in a row , it kept it a bay saying its implementation would harm the country but later it embraced it terming it "One nation one tax". Congress which was completely in its support was opposing the GST implementation in its present form as it would not serve the required purpose,' the former minister said. Continuing on GST , Mr Shukla said, " With their kind of GST, people are not getting working capital, and are not able to get returns. On the contrary, Congress had demanded that there should be 18 per cent cap and people would have got tax benefit if GST was introduced during Manmohan Singh's rule. They have a consultancy group which had suggested all the pros and cons of all the schemes but you need an ear to listen to suggestions'. 'According to P K Chaturvedi recommendations on "demonetisation" , the move would depress growth in many sectors and reforms would slow down impacting the overall economy. He had even cut down the number of these schemes to 64 but regardless of the facts, the NDA government was on its course,' Mr Shukla lamented. On the surge in petrol and diesel prices in the country,Mr Shukla rued that during the Congress rule, the commodities were procured at the rate of 115-120 dollar / barrel and sold at Rs 60-70 in the market but the present government despite getting them at the rate of 40-50 dollar-barrel was selling it at the same UPA price.Calling it Modi government's failure to check price rise, he said, Cong was doing much better job. Commenting on Congress vice-president Rahul Gandhi's recent remark about the present inadequate job creation in the country , Mr Shukla said," Mr Gandhi has raised a very valid point. As many as 30,000 jobs are required to be generated everyday compared to 450 as of now. Firstly, Mr Modi need to accept the gravity of the problem so as to resolve it. As many as 6000 industrialists have moved out of India for greener pastures. Adding , he said Congress is willing to extend its cooperation to the government to find a solution to the galloping problem which was very existant during Congress period also." About the formation of "third front" in Gujarat in the coming assembly polls and whether the Congress would take rebel Shankar Singh Vaghela along, Mr Shukla was non-committal but said, " we made Vaghela , a minister but despite that he defected. The main contest in Gujarat will be between BJP and Congress and rest the party will decide.' Mr Shukla, refusing to elaborate on Bengal chief minister Mamata Banerjee's request to Hindu brethren to observe restraint in Durga idol immmersion on Septenmber 30 in order to facilitate the Muharram processions the same day, said," People should have equal rights to observe all customs and festivals." On demand to confer the third-highest civilian award, Padma Bhushan to former Indian cricket captain, M S Dhoni, Mr Shukla welcomed it saying' Dhoni is a match winner and a match finisher. A par excellence cricketer , he has created a plethora of records in his cricketing journey. Dhoni still has lots of cricket left in him and therefore it is justified to bestow the award on him.'
