Mobile phone thief arrested; stolen mobile phones, counterfeit

Thane, May 19 (UNI) The Mumbra police on Sunday arrested a thief and
seized over a dozen stolen mobile phones along with counterfeit
currency notes collectively worth around Rs 1.46 lakh from him.
Acting on a tip off, a police team raided the residential premises
in Amrut Nagar locality of Mumbra this morning and seized the booty
from him.
The seized goods included counterfeit notes of Rs 500 denomination
totaling Rs 82,000 and also 14 stolen mobile phones of different
makes collectively valued at Rs 64,000, police said.
The arrested accused was identified as Jasim Salim Shaikh alias
Wasim (42).
During the preliminary investigation, it was revealed that Shaikh
had obtained the counterfeit notes from Bangalore.
He has been booked under sections 489(B), 489(C) and 34 of Indian
Penal Code by the Mumbra police, who are now investigating if any
more people were involved in the crime.
He was produced before the magistrate who remanded him to police
custody till May 24, sources added.
