Mobile internet remains suspended for 2nd day in south Kashmir

Mobile internet remains suspended for 2nd day in south Kashmir

Srinagar, Jul 8 (UNI) The mobile internet service of all cellular companies, including Bharat Sanchar Nigam Limited (BSNL), remained suspended for the second successive day on Monday in south Kashmir as a precautionary measure.

The decision to suspend the internet service in south Kashmir was taken on Sunday in view of third death anniversary of Hizbul Mujahideen (HM) commander Burhan Wani in an encounter by security forces on this day in 2016.

Meanwhile, the mobile internet speed has been reduced while broadband internet is also working slow in rest of the valley.

Official sources told UNI that the authorities had asked all cellular companies to suspend mobile internet services across south Kashmir as a precautionary measure. “Data Alert: Dear customer, as per the government instructions, the internet services have been temporarily stopped in your area,” read a message sent from a cellular company to its users in south Kashmir.

But, due to suspension of mobile internet, media persons, professionals, doctors and students were the worst hit in Anantnag, Pulwama, Shopian and Kulgam.

Wani was killed in an encounter with security forces on this day in Kokernag area in south Kashmir district of Anantnag. However, his killing evoked massive protests that left over 120 civilians dead in the valley, where life remained affected for about six months in 2016.
