MNM blames ruling congress, opposition for reduction in polling percentage during by-poll

Puducherry, Oct 22 (UNI) The Puducherry unit of the Makkal Neethi Maiam (MNM) on Tuesday blamed the ruling congress party and the opposition parties for the reduction in the polling percentage of Kamaraj Nagar assembly by-election held here yesterday.

MNM state president Dr M A S Subramanian in a statement said that in the last general election the polling percentage in Kamaraj Nagar constituency was 77.40 pc and yesterday it was 69.44 pc. This is a reduction by nearly 8 per cent, he said adding that in a constituency with a voter strength of 35,000, 8 per cent reduction means as many as 2800 failed to turn up.The improper functioning of the ruling congress and the failure of the opposition to question the lapses of the government led to this decline, he added.
