Mizoram: ZORO raises plight of Zo communities at UN Indigenous Forum

Aizawl, May 10 (UNI) The Zo Reunification Organisation (ZORO) has taken the concerns of Zo ethnic communities to the international stage, telling a United Nations forum in New York that Zo people spread across Myanmar, Bangladesh and Manipur are facing persecution, displacement and growing threats to their identity and unity.
The issue was raised during the 25th Session of the United Nations Permanent Forum on Indigenous Issues (UNPFII), where ZORO representative Lalnunfela Chawngthu addressed delegates on behalf of ZORO and the Zo Indigenous Forum (ZIF).
According to a press statement issued by the organisation, Chawngthu informed the international forum that the Zo ethnic people, commonly referred to as “Zofate”, remain divided across multiple countries despite sharing common ancestry, culture and traditions. He said Zo communities residing in the Chin Hills of Myanmar, the Chittagong Hill Tracts in Bangladesh and the Indian state of Manipur are enduring severe hardships, with many reportedly displaced from their ancestral homes.
