Mizoram yet to lift rice worth Rs 5 crore for refugees as FCI awaits funds

Aizawl, Oct 3 (UNI) Mizoram's Food, Civil Supplies, and Consumer Affairs (FCS&CA) department officials said on Sunday that they are yet to lift 1,379.34 metric tonnes of rice, valued at Rs 5 crore, allocated as humanitarian aid for over 40,000 refugees and internally displaced people (IDPs) in Mizoram from the Food Corporation of India (FCI).
Under the authorisation granted by the Ministry of Consumer Affairs, Food & Public Distribution on September 19, the rice must be lifted within 60 days.
However, FCS&CA officials indicated that the FCI has not issued the necessary release order, citing that funds for the rice, totaling Rs 5 crore, are yet to be received. This payment is expected from the Ministry of Home Affairs (MHA) to facilitate the purchase of the rice.
