Mizoram shifts towards self-reliance with new livestock initiative

Aizawl, Nov 1(UNI) Chief Minister Lalduhoma launched a transformative partnership between the National Livestock Mission (NLM) and the Handholding Scheme on Friday, promising to drive Mizoram's journey toward self-sufficiency in livestock production.
Highlighting his government’s flagship programme, Lalduhoma expressed the state's transition towards self-sufficiency, saying, “Our state is entering a new chapter as we shift from dependency on government aid to achieving success through hard work. The Handholding Scheme supports hardworking individuals in their endeavours, aiming to boost self-reliance among small-scale farmers and producers.”
Lalduhoma noted that the AH & Veterinary Department had previously contributed 45 percent to the Agriculture & Allied sector, although production fell to 23 percent in 2021 due to Covid-19 and African Swine Fever. He expressed optimism that the new convergence would significantly revitalise veterinary outputs.
