Mizoram's oppn parties demand voting rights for deployed Mizoram police

Aizawl, May 30 (UNI) Barely six days before counting votes for the general election to the Parliament, all the opposition parties in Mizoram sent representation on Thursday to Prime Minister Narendra Modi and Chief Election Commissioner Rajeev Kumar to facilitate the exercise of franchise for the 1,047 state armed police force deployed on election duty outside the state.
The letter to Modi and Kumar was signed by state Pradesh Congress Committee president Lal Thanzara, Mizo National Front (MNF) chief Zoramthanga, BJP state unit president Vanlahmuaka, Mizoram People’s Conference (MPC) president Vanlalruata, and Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) Mizoram unit president Andrew Lalremkima.
Fifteen companies of the Mizoram State Armed Police Force (SAPF), comprising of 1,047 Mizoram Police personnel, were deployed to the states of Bihar (eight companies), Uttar Pradesh (four companies), and Madhya Pradesh (three companies) via letter no. III-11043/2023-G/GPE-2024 (Vol.II) dated 23.3.2024 for election duty, while the date fixed by the ECI for polling in Mizoram was April 19, 2024, as the first phase of polling.
