Mizoram collects Rs 442.98 lakh in cess from fuel since September

Aizawl, Dec 9 (UNI) The Mizoram Finance Department has collected over Rs 442.98 lakh as road maintenance and social infrastructure cess from petrol and diesel sales between September 1 and November 30, a department official said on Sunday.
The state government began levying Rs 2 per litre each on petrol and diesel for road maintenance and an additional Rs 2 per litre for social infrastructure and services cess from September 1, the official stated.
Fuel prices in Mizoram saw a significant hike from September 1, following an increase in value-added tax (VAT). VAT on petrol was raised from 5.23% to 10%, while for diesel, it increased from 16.36% to 18%, as per a notification issued by the Taxation Department.
