MIzoram CM inaugurates urban forest project

Aizawl, Nov 12 (UNI) Chief Minister Lalduhoma on Tuesday inaugurated En Tlang Ngaw, Serchhip, developed for Rs 132 lakh under the Nagar Van Yojana (Urban Forest) project.
Speaking at the event, the Chief Minister described the forested hill and its surroundings as a significant part of Mizoram’s natural and historical heritage. He highlighted that the area once formed part of the domain of Bengkhuaia, a legendary Mizo chief, and praised efforts to revitalise it as a symbol of the state's rich cultural and environmental legacy.
Citing the India State of Forest Report (ISFR) 2021, he pointed out that 84.53 percent of Mizoram's total area is under green cover, making it one of the greenest states in the country. However, the state has only 0.74 percent of very dense forest, the lowest among North-Eastern states. Open forests account for 56.68percent of the state's land area, and much of the pristine forests are located outside protected areas such as national parks and wildlife sanctuaries.
