Mizoram Assembly to pay tribute to Kapoor Chand Thakuri

Aizawl, Aug 12 (UNI) The Mizoram legislative assembly during the coming 2-day monsoon session will pay tribute to Kapoor Chand Thakuri, the first and only nominated legislator from the Gorkha community, sources in the state assembly secretariat said on Monday.
Thakuri, who was nominated as a legislator in the 30-member first Mizoram legislative assembly in 1972, died on July 15 in Kathmandu. Mizoram became a union territory with an assembly in 1972, and the Mizo Union, the first political party, won the assembly elections. The Mizo Union government selected Kapoor Chand Thakuri, Saptawni (who became the first woman MLA), and Lalhmingthanga for the nominated seats.
Meanwhile, one government bill, ‘The Mizoram Prisons and Correctional Services Bill,’ has been received by the assembly secretariat, officials said, adding that 263 starred questions and 17 unstarred questions have so far been received.
