Mizoram: Assailant in viral assault video arrested, sent to jail

Aizawl, Dec 10 (UNI) The Aizawl police have arrested 22-year-old C. Lalnunfela, the man captured in a shocking CCTV footage assaulting a young woman, believed to be his girlfriend.
The arrest was made around 1 a.m. on Monday, following public outrage over the viral video.Lalnunfela, a resident of Chanmari West in Aizawl, was charged under Section 74 of the BNS Act, 2024, which carries a minimum sentence of one year and a maximum of five years in jail. The police registered the case suo moto. He was produced before the court and subsequently sent to the Central Jail, Aizawl.
The assault, which was recorded on a deserted road, shows Lalnunfela hitting and kicking the woman, causing her to collapse. A parked scooter nearby suggested they had ridden to the location.
