Srinagar, Dec 3 (UNI) Chairman of moderate Hurriyat Conference (HC) Mirwaiz Moulvi Omar Farooq has been put under house arrest from Monday morning while JKLF chief Mohammad Yaseen Malik remained in central Jail.
There was no relief for chairman of hardline HC Syed Ali Shah Geelani, who remained under house arrest for several months.
The Joint Resistance Leadership (JRL) comprising Geelani, Mirwaiz and Malik has urged people to light candles and torchlights in the evening to highlight alleged human rights abuses by security forces during the week-long human rights week from today.
A spokesman for the HC said that a large number of state police and CRPF personnel had been deployed outside the Nigeen house of the Mirwaiz since early this morning to prevent him from moving out. The Mirwaiz has been informed that he cannot leave till further orders, he said.
Meanwhile, Malik, who was arrested from his Maisuma house last month, has been lodged in central jail, Srinagar.
