Minister inaugurates training programme for farmers

Puducherry, Jan 22 (UNI) Agriculture Minister R Kamalakannan on Wednesday inaugurated a four- day training programme for farmers, jointly organized by the French Institute of Pondicherry, Puducherry Agriculture Department and some NGOs here.

Speaking on the occasion, Mr Kamalakannan said this training programme will give a boost to farmers, particularly organic farmers, besides finding markets for organic farmers for their production and encourage people to switch on to organic products.

He said the French government, French consulate and French Institute were contributing a lot for the development of tourism, education and among others here.

It is better to derive the good habits from foreign countries, he said, adding that unfortunately, we are deriving the bad leaving behind the good habits.

Mr Kamalakannan also gave a comparison of liquor consumption by French and Puducherrians to substantiate this.

Stating that Tamil and French are two beautiful languages, he said that certain pronunciations is there only in French and Tamil.

Archeology team to study cracks in 400-year-old Nandi statue in Mysore

Mysore, Feb 19 (UNI) A team of experts from Archeological Department have been formed to look into the allegation about cracks developed on the 400-year-old Nandi statue at Chamundi hills here, sources said on Wednesday
Earlier in January Member of the Mysore Heritage Committee and historian Prof N S Rangaraju spotted the cracks on the statue and had submitted the report to the district administration seeking action to prevent further damage to the historic statue.
