Militant killed, policeman injured in ongoing encounter in Tral

Srinagar, Nov 9 (UNI) A militant was killed, while a policeman got injured in an ongoing encounter, which ensued after security forces launched a Cordon and Search Operation (CASO) at Tral in south Kashmir district of Pulwama on Friday.
Meanwhile, authorities suspended mobile internet service in Pulwama as a precautionary measure, to prevent spread of rumours.
Official sources told UNI that following specific information about the presence of militants, troops of Rashtriya Rifles (RR), the Special Operation Group (SOG) of Jammu and Kashmir police and the CRPF, launched a joint search operation at Gund in Tral of Pulwama.
"However, when the security forces were moving towards a particular area in the village, militants hiding there opened fire with automatic weapons," they said, adding that security forces also retaliated, ensuing in an encounter.
They said a militant was killed in the initial exchange of fire, adding that a policeman was also injured in the encounter. 'The injured policeman was immediately taken to a hospital, where his health condition is said to be stable,' they added.
The operation was still going on when the reports last came in, they said, adding that additional security forces have been rushed and the area has been further sealed, to foil any attempts by the militants to escape.
