Militant killed in gunfight with security forces in north Kashmir: Police

Srinagar, Oct 28 (UNI) A local militant was killed in a brief gunfight with security forces in north Kashmir’s Baramulla district on Thursday morning, police said.

They said the brief gunfight broke when militants fired at an area domination party of the Army and police at Cherdari in the outskirts of Baramulla town.

“#Terrorists fired on ADP of Army and Police in Cherdari, #Baramulla. Alert parties retaliated and 1 terrorist killed. ….01 pistol, 01 loaded magazine & 01 Pak grenade was recovered from his possession,” a police tweet said.

The police later identified the slain as Javaid Ahmed Wani, a resident of south Kashmir’s Kulgam district. They said the slain had "assisted a militant in the killing of two migrant workers from Bihar on October 2 at Wanpoh Kulgam."
“Killed #terrorist is hybrid type, identified as Javed Ah Wani of #Kulgam district and he has assisted terrorist Gulzar (who was killed on 20th Oct) in #killing of 2 labourers from #Bihar in #Wanpoh. He was on mission to target one shopkeeper in #Baramulla,” police tweet quoting Inspector General of Police Kashmir said.

Security forces have stepped up anti militancy operations following the targeted killing of migrant workers and minorities in the UT. This month 19 militants have been killed so far in various operations.

Rewa (MP), Jan 17 (UNI) A youth sustained severe burns after his fiancee’s father allegedly doused him with kerosene and set it alight when the youngster had gone to meet her at Maltara village in Chakghat Police Station limits, police said on Monday.
Ramashram (26) – a resident of Sohagi Police Station limits – is reported to be recovering at the Sanjay Gandhi Memorial Hospital here. He was targeted on Sunday by Arjun who absconded but was later placed under arrest and remanded in custody.
