Miley Cyrus returns as Hannah Montana for Disney’s 20th anniversary special

Los Angeles, Mar 11 (UNI) Singer-actor Miley Cyrus has made an emotional return to one of television’s most iconic teen characters, Hannah Montana, after nearly 15 years, delighting longtime fans of the beloved Disney series. The surprise comeback comes as Disney unveiled the trailer for the ‘Hannah Montana 20th Anniversary Special’, marking two decades since the show first premiered.
On Tuesday, Disney released the trailer for the special, which will debut on March 24, 2026, exactly 20 years after the original series premiered on Disney Channel.
As teased in the trailer video, fans will be treated to never-before-seen footage of the cast, recreated sets from the show, iconic moments from the series, and even “familiar notes that find their way back into the spotlight,” Disney said in a statement, as per Variety.
"This show defined a generation. This anniversary is for them, it's for us. This feels like home to me," an overwhelmed Miley Cyrus said in the video.
The special will be filmed in front of a live studio audience and will feature an engaging conversation between Miley Cyrus and host Alex Cooper.
According to the Disney website, Cyrus will join the special for an exclusive, in-depth interview with Alex Cooper. The conversation will “offer an intimate look at the creation of one of pop culture's most iconic characters and the lasting impact the show and character have had on fans around the world.”
Hannah Montana originally premiered in 2006 and ran for four seasons until 2011, becoming a massive hit among kids and teenagers around the world. The show even earned four Emmy nominations for Outstanding Children's Program.
The series followed Miley Stewart, a teenager from Malibu, California, who secretly lives a double life as the famous pop star Hannah Montana. Its popularity also led to a theatrical film, Hannah Montana: The Movie, which was released in April 2009.
Besides Miley Cyrus, the show featured actors including Emily Osment, Mitchel Musso, Billy Ray Cyrus, Jason Earles and Moises Arias.
Throughout its run, the show also welcomed several high-profile guest stars, including Selena Gomez, Jonas Brothers, Dwayne Johnson, Larry David and Lisa Rinna.
The ‘Hannah Montana 20th Anniversary Special’ will premiere on March 24, 2026, and will be available for streaming on Disney .
