Midday meal workers stage dharna protesting against privatization of the scheme

Kakinada, Dec 19 (UNI) A large number of Midday meal scheme workers owing allegiance to the CITU led AP Midday meal scheme workers union have staged Dharna in front of the Collectorate here on Wednesday protesting against the government’s decision to hand over the maintenance of the scheme to the private agencies and voluntary service organizations.
They raised slogans demanding the government to withdraw the Memo no : 927753 dated 28 April on privatizing the scheme dispensing with the present system of women workers management.
They also demanded to enhance workers and helpers wages from the existing Rs.1,000 to a minimum of Rs.5,000 and ensure payment of wages promptly before 8th of every month .
