Microgen may start a factory for its appliances provided it finds good response for its high efficient biomass

Kolkata, Sep 25 (UNI) Holland's Microgen Engine Corporation may start a factory for its appliances in
India in the next two years, if Globe Solutions finds good response for its high efficient biomass mCHP
which runs on free Piston Stirling Engine developed by Microgen.
Speaking to UNI on the sidelines of an interactive session at Bharat Chambers here, Gerwin Lubbers, Manager Applications &Customers, said, the company would manufacture the mCHP in India, if it finds a good partner here. Currently, Microgen has a manufacturing unit in Dongguan, China, where it produces the sterling engine used in the mCHP.
About the Stirling machines, Lubbers said shifting the manufacturing unit to India would be difficult as it took the company several years to stabilise its operations in China.
"We would like to start manufacturing mCHP in India immediately if it is adopted here," he said.
The Poland based producer of Biomass mCHP, Globe is targetting India for its huge population of cows and easy availability of cowdung.
Marcin Wilczynski, vice-chairman and co-owner of Globe solution, said his system could use dry cow dung.
He said the electrical output of 1kw-1.8 kw continuosly could be obtained with 60 kg of cowdung.
He said the amount of power generated would be enough for a household. Owing to low maintenance the system was most suitable for remote areas, he said.
mCHP can also use scobs, wood chips, grass, straw, biochar and pellets. However, Wilczynski said cowdung was most suitable as it had very low emmision.
Power Consultant Ashok Dasgupta said since mCHP was available in on grid and off grid versions, households could form clusters and generate power for their own use.
He said mCHP was capable of generating power cheaper than solar PVs.
Globe Solutions has also develped a heating sysyem in versions 10kW and 15 kW and a number of modules like cooking stove, boiler for water, heaters and cooling units can be connected to the system.
TMC MP Manish Gupta said though mCHP may not be suitable for on grid power, it may be useful for remote villages in Sundarbans.
He said, " Though West Bengal has achieved 100 per cent electrification but there must be some areas where electricity supply is needed. Those areas may find use for this technology, " he said.
Storage and transmission of renewable energy like solar power is a big issue, he said adding new solutions were necessary to ensure energy security for the country.
Mr Ashok Dasgupta said electricity generated by biomass was being transmitted through grid in European countries, and it might be possible in India in future.
