New Delhi, Jun 24 (UNI) Union Home Minister Amit Shah while participating in all party meeting of Jammu and Kashmir leaders here on Thursday, assuring them that the Centre “is committed to ensure all round development” in the Union Territory and Union Home Secretary is learnt to have made a detailed presentation on the achievements made so far in the past two years.
Sources said the presentation made in the meeting outlined the developmental gains in details under the head “Development with Transparency” which elaborated how the Central schemes have reached to the 90 percent of the population, fast tracked construction of two hydel-power stations at Pakul Dul and Keeru, strengthening of Panchayati Raj Institutions and Urban Local Bodies, PM Kisan Samman Nidhi of Rs 6000 getting deposited under DBT scheme to farmers, efforts to make at least one agro based industry in each district and increase of quality and density of apple production in the UT.
Coming out of the meeting of leaders of the mainstream political parties of Jammu and Kashmir, chaired by Prime Minister Narendra Modi, the Home Minister in a tweet said, “The future of Jammu and Kashmir was discussed and the delimitation exercise and peaceful elections are important milestones in restoring statehood as promised in Parliament.”
Union Minister Jitendra Singh later said, the Home Minister also explained to the J&K leaders about the prevailing situation in the UT and how development and security initiatives taken in past two years have changed the landscape.
On June 22 also, a ‘Core Group’ consisted of top officials of Civil Administration, Intelligence Agencies, Security Forces and Divisional Commissioner at Srinagar had met at Badami Bagh Cantonment in Srinagar to review the security situation in Kashmir. The meeting was co-chaired by the General Officer Commanding, Chinar Corps, Lt Gen DP Pandey and Jammu and Kashmir DGP Dilbag Singh.
The core group had discussed the satisfactory handling of COVID-19 in Kashmir valley, the officials shared inputs about the Line of Control and hinterland security situation. The officials in the meeting stated that the ceasefire has improved the security situation along the border, however, intelligence inputs of terrorist launch pads and terrorist training activities in Pakistan indicate the need to be alert along the Line of Control.
There have been indications of heightened activity in last two months. The cross-border smuggling of narcotics and weapons continued to be focus of the intelligence agencies and security forces. This included continued vigil and checks on all passes leading to Kashmir valley.
