MGR took saddle of Tamil cinema, MS Viswanathan flag victory in playback music field

By C Radhakrishnan
Alappuzha, Dec 5 (UNI) MG Ramachandan and MS Viswanathan were born on the soil of Malayalam language.
But their future was secured in the land of Tamil. They became fortune seekers and won in that life experimental journey in Tamil soil.
MGR took the saddle of Tamil cinema for long years while MS Viswanathan waved the flag of victory in playback musicfield in the same cinema.
Though life of both, MGR and MSV deeply connected with the Tamil cinema, they kept eagerness in their minds to come to films making in own mother tongue. Once they got that chance for which they waited long years. The man who appeared as chance provider before them was Alleppey Vincent.
The Malayalam cinema they got to act and compose was “Jenova”. This cinema is being called as the first big budget venture in Malayalam.
The production cost of Jenova went beyond Rs 10 lakh. Yet, it ended in financial loss and producers had to suffer too much. A cinema made at the cost more than ten lakhs rupees in the early 1950 ended in such loss was due to the inefficiency of its architects.
While a cinema telling history, normally it should have a wide canvas. If technicians and background workers are unfit to it, certainly that cinema would be a “celluloid waste”. That was happened to Jenova. Another lesson it has given to cinema is unless producers had a clear vision and calculations about the caliber of director, script director, actors and technicians, they would be cruelly exploited.
The back door story of “Jenova”, in all kinds, is a typical example for such debacle.
