MGP release list 18 candidates, GSM 4 for assembly elections in Goa

Panaji, Jan 13 (UNI) The Maharashtrawadi Gomantak Party (MGP) and Goa Suraksha Manch (GSM) today released lists of their candidates for the assembly election due in the state on February 4.
While MGP released the names of its 18 candidates, GSM released names of four nominees.
Addressing a press conference at the party office in the city, party president Deepak Dhavalikar said, ''Today MGP is announcing the names of candidates for 18 constituencies. The candidates have been selected by our parliamentary board which met today. This is the first list of the candidates. Second list of the candidates will be released tomorrow.''
As per the list declared by the MGP, Sridhar Manjrekar would be contesting from Mandrem, Manohar (Babu) Azgaonkar from Pernem, Naresh Sawal from Bicholim, Vinod (Balu) Fadke from Mapusa, Jagdish
Bhobe from St Andre, Abhay Prabhu from Shiroda, Vijay Gaonkar from Valpoi, Deepak Dhavalikar from Priol, Lavoo Mamledar from Ponda, Sundin Dhavalikar from Madkaim, Manesh Arolkar from Vasco Da Gama,
Premanand (Babu) Nanoskar from Dabolim, Conceicao Dias from Curtorim, Dilip Sagun Naik from Fatorda, Stayajit Naik from Navelim, Deepak Pawaskar from Sanvordem and Vasudeo Meng Gaonkar from Sanguem.
Mr Dhavalikar also said in Kumbharjua constituency the party would extend support to Prasad Harmalkar who is an independent candidate.
The MGP has forged a pre-poll grand alliance with GSM and Shiv Sena. The alliance will field 37 candidates for the February 4 elections.
According to the agreement, out of the 40 legislative assembly seats in the state, MGP would contest on 26 seats, GSM on six and Shiv Sena on five.
GSM president Anand Shirodkar, who was present at the press conference, also announced names of candidates for four assembly constituencies.
The candidates are Paresh Raikar from Siolim constituency, Prof Atmaram Gaonkar from Mayem, Dr Suresh Amonkar from Sanquelim and Shyam Shatardekar from Curchorem, he said.
He also said candidature for Panaji and Taleigao constituencies had not been finalised yet.
About Raju Sukerkar, whom the party had announced its candidate, the GSM president added he (Sukerkar) would not be able to contest on health ground.
