MGNREGA generated 235 cr persondays of wage employment, highest in last 5 yrs: Singh

New Delhi, Jun 28 (UNI) The government's flagship scheme Mahatma Gandhi National Rural Employment Act (MGNREGA) generated a record of 235 crore persondays of wage employment in the last one year with highest ever expenditure of approx Rs 56, 000 crore.
The expenditure on the scheme is highest since its inception and the employment generated is also a record in past five years, Union Rural Development, Panchayati Raj and Drinking Water and Sanitation Minister Chaudhary Birender Singh said, releasing the first outcome report on MGNREGA for FY-2016-17 during a national conference of state Panchayati Raj Ministers here.
Mr Singh said report titled “Performance, Initiatives and Strategies FY 15-16 and FY16-17” shows the state/UT wise achievements and strategies for improvising the MGNREGA.
