MG Motors unveils its first electric car

New Delhi, Dec 5 (UNI) MG (Morris Garages) Motors on Thursday unveiled its first electric car MG ZS EV, for the Indian market. The MG ZS EV will be launched here in January 2020.
"The all-electric SUV based on MG ZS comes with the company’s next generation i-SMART EV 2.0 technology, which provides it with a slick and advanced interface and the car is also 5G ready. The ZS EV has a drive range of 262-372 km to a full charge. A 7kW charger takes 6.5 hours to fully charge the vehicle while a CCS-type fast charger takes about 40 minutes to 80 per cent charge. The battery has a capacity of 44.5kWh which translates to a peak power of 143ps." MG Motor India President & Managing Director Rajeev Chaba said on the occasion.
"We firmly believe the future of automobiles is connected with electric," he added.
MG Motor will bring the car first to five cities, namely Delhi, Mumbai, Bengaluru, Hyderabad and Ahmedabad. Once launched here, the only competition for MG ZS EV will be Hyundai Kona EV, the first all-electric SUV to be launched in India.
LED daytime running lights, auto headlights, silver roof rails, rear parking sensors, powered door mirrors, follow me home lights, LED centre brake light and projection headlights are featured on the ZS EV.
The company has used a 'Skyroof' on the ZS electric that covers 90 per cent area of the roof. In addition, features like iSmart internet system and a PM2.5 air filter are also equipped in the vehicle.
Notably, MG Motor India claims that the operational cost of the ZS electric will be less than 10 per cent as compared to a normal petrol engine in its segment.
Prices of the MG ZS EV will be disclosed at the time of its commercial launch in January. Bookings will begin in the second half of December.
