Mexican Ambassador meets ISRO Chairman

Bengaluru, Nov 13 (UNI) The Ambassador of Mexico to India, Federico Salas, met ISRO Chairman Dr S Somnath at Anatriksh Bhavan here on Tuesday. The meeting focused on enhancing the growing cooperation between ISRO and the Mexican Space Agency (AEM) and exploring new avenues for collaboration in space technology.
Making the announcement today, Dr Somanath highlighted the successful joint initiatives between ISRO and AEM, including the development of a mobile application for forest fire monitoring using satellite data.
He also mentioned a four-day workshop held in August 2024 in Mexico, organised by ISRO officials, to train Mexican officials in the use of space systems for forest fire management.
Dr Somanath further discussed the G20 Satellite mission for environment and climate observation and the potential for industry-level collaborations between India and Mexico in the space sector.
Ambassador Salas praised India's achievements in space, particularly the Chandrayaan-3 mission’s successful landing near the lunar south pole, which has garnered international recognition. He expressed gratitude for India’s support in space technology applications, especially in areas like forest fire monitoring and agricultural drought assessment.
The Ambassador also stressed the importance of expanding the ongoing cooperation between ISRO and AEM, with a focus on broader regional collaboration, particularly with the Latin American and Caribbean Space Agency (ALCE), as India and Mexico approach the 75th anniversary of their diplomatic relations in 2025.
In response, Dr Somanath agreed to explore further opportunities for collaboration, including the potential for India to support Mexico in the development of Earth observation satellites. He welcomed the prospect of deepening the bilateral space partnership and reaffirmed India’s commitment to enhancing space cooperation with Mexico.
This meeting marks a significant step in strengthening the ties between India and Mexico in the field of space exploration and technology.
