Mumbai, Feb 26 (UNI) Luxury Car Major, Mercedes-Benz has launched

the S-Class in India and prices for the car start from

Rs 1.33 crore (ex-showroom Delhi) for the S350 d diesel variant and Rs 1.37 crore (ex-showroom Delhi) for the S 450 petrol variant.

The new S-Class 350 d is India's first 'BS VI compliant- Made in

India, for India', vehicle with a state-of-the-art diesel engine

that meets BS VI emission norms, two years ahead of the regulation.

This engine is capable of running on currently available BS IV fuel

as well. The company's flagship model is produced at the Chakan

facility in Pune which is the only plant outside of Europe that

produces the S-Class.

In the exterior, the facelifted car differs from the pre-facelift

with its new headlamps and tail lamps along with the new front and

rear bumpers. The facelift S-Class also gets a new set of wheels as

compared to the older car. On the interior, the S-Class gets

typically well-made interiors with two new 12.3-linch high

definition screens that make up the infotainment and the central

command unit. The S-Class also gets wood options for interior trim

and leather options for the seats and the side panels. The new

S-Class even gets new seats with a new fragrance function along with

the obvious cooled, heated and massaging options.

The S-Class facelift also comes with the latest generation of

radar-based driving assistance systems that reduce the risk of

accidents and enhance the protection of occupants as well as other

road users.

Roland Folger, Managing Director & CEO, Mercedes-Benz India stated,

"True to its legacy, the S-Class has emulated its global success in

India and has had a phenomenal run in the country. To continue and

build on this success, we have introduced the new version of our

flagship saloon, which reaffirms its leadership status. This time

round, it is not just intelligent, but also responsible luxury. By

launching the first ever 'Made in India, for India' BS VI car, we

have set a benchmark among all car manufacturers to support the

Government in mitigating the rising pollution levels in the country.

The new S-Class brings together luxury, design and technology that

meet the highest standards of perfection, surpassing expectations

for a vehicle of this class."

The S-Class will be made available in both petrol and

diesel powertrains. The OM 656 engine used in the S 350 d is the

most powerful passenger car diesel engine designed by Mercedes-Benz

India; the inline-six cylinder motor delivers an output of 282 bhp

and develops 600 Nm of peak torque. 0-100 kmph is done in just 6

seconds. The new engine is also designed to comply with future

emissions legislation.

The Mercedes-Benz S-Class comes with new inline 6 cylinder

engines

The cabin has been completely revamped and there's Apple CarPlay and

Android Auto On Offer

Over and above the multifold safety features that come as standard,

the new S-Class comes with optional safety technology: a new

radar-based driving assistance system which reduce the risk of

accidents and enhance the protection of occupants as well as other

road users, and of course, can take the strain off the driver within

the respective system limits.

The Active Distance Assist controls the distance to vehicles in

front up to a speed of 210 kmph and if necessary brakes the vehicle

with up to 50 per cent of the maximum braking power. The Active

Steering Assist speeds up to 210 kmph and helps the driver keep the

vehicle in the centre of its lane on straight stretches of road or

slight bends. The Ative Braking Assist applies the emergency braking

function which can help to avoid or lessen the consequences of

accidents with vehicles in front and pedestrians. Finally, there's

Blind Spot Assist which can warn the driver of vehicles in the blind

spot during a lane change.
