Memons pledge for social causes on World Memons' Day

Mumbai, Apr 11 (UNI) Members of the Memon community celebrated

the World Memons' Day on Wednesday dedicating themselves to social

and philantrophic work pledge to undertake several activities.



They also decided to join Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR)

initiatives.



April 11, marked as the World Memons' Day and in India, the

festivities are spearheaded by All India Memon Jamat Federation

(AIMJF).



A function organsied here by the Memon community, Congress MLA

Amin patel, BJP spokespereson Atul Shah and other were present.



India has a 15-lakh strong Memom community population - mainly

engaged in business - while world over there are 40 lakh Memons -

spread across the five continents.



Defining what they want to do in future, the Memon community

decided to work in the tribal areas of Maharashtra, to start with, and work

with the local people and tackle issues like malnutriton.

They also assured that they were recognise the efforts to the

ten-member team of tribal boys and girls from Chandrapur district of

Vidarbha region of Maharashtra, which is going on a mission to scale

Mt Everest, the tallest mountain peak of the world.

The Memon community also decided to intensify initiatives in areas

of education, medical, housing, community development, economic

upliftment, rural women development, relief work, unity, welfare and

well being of people.

"We have been into charity and philantrophy. We want to do it in a

much organsied manner and are open to suggestions," said Iqbal Memon

officer president of AIMJF.



He also said that 'We would also be speaking to the coaches and

players who had taken part in games like Olympics , Asiad and CWG

and step up efforts to create sports infrastructure in the tribal

schools'.
