Meghalaya: VPP opposes move to develop Mawjymbuin Cave as religious site

Shillong, Apr 17 (UNI) Meghalaya’s opposition Voice of the People Party (VPP) today strongly opposed the Bharatiya Janata Party’s (BJP’s) move to develop Mawjymbuin Cave in Mawsynram village as a religious or pilgrimage site, asserting it must remain strictly a natural tourist destination.
In a statement issued here, VPP Spokesperson Dr. Airpeace Well Rani stressed that the Mawjymbuin Cave should not be linked to any religion or faith in any form.
“The VPP would like to categorically state that Mawjymbuin Cave in Mawsynram is purely a natural tourist destination and must remain so. Any attempt to project, interpret, or develop the cave as a religious or even cultural site is deeply concerning and unacceptable,” he said.
