Shillong, Dec 28 (UNI) The Indian Olympic Association accepted Meghalaya’s bid to host the National Games overshadowing four other bidders Andhra Pradesh, Goa, Chhattisgargh and Uttarakhand. "The IOA accepted our bid, and has allotted Meghalaya to host the 2022 National Games," Meghalaya State Olympic Association (MSOA) president John F Kharshïing told UNI over phone from Chennai yesterday. He said the IOA accepted Meghalaya’s bid to host the prestigious games which will coincide with the state 50 years of statehood following the successful South Asian Games, which was co-hosted by Shillong and Guwahati earlier this year. “After successfully hosting the South Asian Games, we were determined and ready to bid for the National Games. The success of the South Asian Games also made the IOA comfortable with our bid,” Mr Kharshiing added. Meghalaya had also pledged Rs 5 Crore as the bid amount for the game. Meghalaya will be the third northeastern state after Manipur and Assam hosted the National Games in 1999 and 2007, respectively. Goa will be hosting the National Games from November 17 to 28, 2017.
