Meghalaya HC Chief Justice stresses on rights of differently-abled

Shillong, Aug 13 (UNI) Meghalaya High Court Chief Justice, S. Vaidyanathan on Tuesday stated that at least one billion of the global population has some form of disability whether at birth or acquired and nearly 240 million are children., even as he emphasized on the need to safeguard the basic human rights of the differently abled community.
Addressing a consultation programme on protection of children with disabilities organized by the Juvenile Justice Committee, High Court of Meghalaya, Vaidyanathan said that programmes and policies were being initiated to focus on supporting disabled children and adults.
“Considering the problems of children with disabilities worldwide, there is a need to increase joint efforts to effectively implement the commitments, fight social stigma associated with disabilities and discrimination that leads to social rejection,” he underscored.
