Meghalaya: Curfew relaxed, Assy session on Dec 19

Shillong, Dec 14 (UNI) District authorities in this state capital of Meghalaya on Saturday relaxed curfew in the violence-hit areas under Lumdiengjri and Sardar Police Stations for nine hours.
A one-day special session of the State Assembly will be held on December 19 to adopt a government resolution to implement the Inner Line Permit (ILP) after President Ram Nath Kovind gave his assent to the contentious Citizenship (Amendment) Bill, 2019.
The district authorities clamped Curfew after violence erupted in the state, in protest against the passage of the Bill in both the Houses of Parliament.
Mobile internet services remained suspended across the state, to prevent spreading of misinformation.
''The situation is still tense, but under control. All necessary arrangements have been made to prevent any untoward incident,'' Deputy Commissioner of East Khasi Hills district, Matsiewdor War Nongbri said.
Though, there were no report of any untoward incident till filing of this report, four prominent social organisations- the Khasi Student's Union, the Federation of Khasi, Jaintia and Garo People's, the Hynniewtrep National Youth Front and the Ri-Bhoi Youth Federation - took out a motorcycle rally in and around Shillong, protesting against the BJP-led NDA government over the passage of the Citizenship Bill and demanded from the state government to implement the ILP in Meghalaya.
