Meghalaya CM launches LLINs to combat Malaria

Shillong, Jul 4 (UNI) Meghalaya Chief Minister Conrad Sangma on Saturday launched the Long Lasting Insecticidal Mosquito Nets (LLINs) in Garo Hills as part of the nation-wide drive to eliminate malaria by 2030.

“LLINs have played a big role in reducing the malaria burden in Meghalaya. Grateful to Global Fund & the Directorate of the National Vector Borne Disease Control Programme (NVBDCP) for providing over 10 Lakh LLINs to our State,” he tweeted.

Stating that Meghalaya is one of the high malaria endemic states that have been successful in bringing down the “disease burden”, Sangma commended the efforts of the State health department in working to ensure that malaria, which was a killer disease, is now “kept under control”.

“We are also working towards ramping up our health infrastructure across the State and to transform the health sector in Meghalaya,” he iterated.

Earlier, Sangma inspected the facilities and infrastructure of the Darenggre Primary Health Centre (PHC) in West Garo Hills District.

“We will take necessary steps to upgrade and renovate the PHC to cater to the medical needs of our people,” the Chief Minister assured.
