Meghalaya CM concerned over vaccine hesitancy

Shillong, Aug 15 (UNI) Meghalaya Chief Minister, Conrad K Sangma on Sunday expressed concern over widespread hesitancy among the people of the state against the COVID-19 vaccine, even as he observed that while 74 years ago, on this day the people had declared independence from a distant invader, today the fight is against a deadly virus.

“Despite the understanding that COVID-19 vaccination is crucial for protection against severe disease and death, the progress of COVID-19 vaccination in the state is sadly unsatisfactory. As on date only 47 per cent of eligible individuals have taken at least their first dose,” he said in the course of his speech after unfurling the national flag at the Polo Grounds, Shillong on the occassion of Independence Day.
