Meghalaya: Civil Society Groups demand spl Assy session to discuss ILP

Shillong, Dec 13 (UNI) The Civil Society Groups in Meghalaya on Friday asked the ruling Meghalaya Democratic Alliance government to convene a special session of the state Assembly and adopt a resolution to urge the Central government to implement the Inner Line Permit (ILP) in the state, on or before December 19.
The four prominent groups, comprising the Khasi Student's Union, the Federation of Khasi, Jaintia and Garo People's, the Hynniewtrep National Youth Front and the Ri-Bhoi Youth Federation passed this resolution at an emergent meeting after President Ram Nath Kovind gave his assent to the Citizenship (Amendment) Bill, 2019, passed by both the Houses of Parliament.
''We have revolved to demand from the state government to convene a special session of the state assembly and adopt a resolution to urge the central government to implement the Inner Line Permit (ILP) in the state on or before December 19,'' HNYF president Sadon Blah said.
