Meghalaya Assembly rejects privilege motion against Speaker

Shillong, Feb 22 (UNI) The Meghalaya Assembly on Thursday rejected the privilege motion moved by opposition Voice of the People Party (VPP) legislator Adelbert Nongrum against Speaker Thomas Sangma for disallowing a discussion on a Comptroller Auditor General of India (CAG) report.
Nongrum said that his parliamentary rights was denied after the Speaker did not admit his special motion to discuss on the CAG report on social and economic sector for the year ended March 31, 2022.
“We are at liberty to discuss the CAG report in public and in press and media, how come we are disallowed by the Speaker for discussion in the House. Can our fundamental right be curtailed this way,” the VPP legislator asked while urging the intervention of the House.
