New Delhi, Jun 15 (UNI) The Indian Council for Medical Research (ICMR) and Press Information Bureau (PIB) on Monday termed a media report quoting a study by ICMR predicting COVID-19 peak in mid of November as "misleading".
The media report quoted a study conducted by researchers from an Operations Research Group constituted by the ICMR saying that the peak stage of COVID-19 in India has been delayed by the eight-week lockdown and it may now arrive around mid-November.
The report also claims that when peak would hit, a paucity of isolation and ICU beds can arise.
Debunking the report, the ICMR said, 'the news reports attributing this study to ICMR are misleading. This refers to a non peer reviewed modelling, not carried out by ICMR and does not reflect the official position of ICMR.'
The report was also rejected by the PIB. In a statement, PIB's fact check department said, 'the news is misleading. The study to which the report is attributed, is not carried out by ICMR and doesn't reflect the authentic information.'
PIB launched its fact checking arm in December last year with an objective to identify misinformation related to government’s policies and schemes.
