MCCI celebrates 186th Chamber day

Chennai, Sep 29 (UNI) The Madras Chamber of Commerce and Industry
(MCCI), the oldest industry body in Tamil Nadu and the second oldest in
India, on Thursday celebrated its 186th Chamber day.
At an event organised by the MCCI to mark the occasion its President
T.R.Kesavan said the Chamber is an unique organisation in the sense
it blends the old ethos and values of businesses with the new age
requirements and outlooks.
"This is evident from our various activities and initiatives over different
periods of history starting from our earlier advocacy for business friendly
policies, focus on education and skilling, SMEs etc., which besides
continuing, have expanded into many new horizons like Fintech, Industry
4.0, Research and Development, Climate Change and Sustainability and
the like", he said.
The Chamber’s exclusive focus on the State has helped us to work in
close collaboration with Govt. and other Stake holders in many of these
areas, he added.
Kesavan said since its inception the Chamber is focusing on research
and innovation and working with different stakeholders together to
enhance the industry development.
MCCI’s future growth pathways would include export promotion, education
and skilling, arbitration, encouraging start-ups etc.
The Chamber is also working on bringing out a ready reckoner or a handbook
for regulatory compliances tilted “Doing Business in Tamil Nadu” by working
closely with the government to encourage new investments and maintain a
business-friendly climate.
The Chamber is known for its several first initiatives for the overall economic
development of the nation and more particularly in the State of Tamil Nadu.
Advocating for ease of doing business, playing a key role in infrastructure
development of Madras in 1900s, preparing a TN Vision Document in 2000
are some of the special initiatives of MCCI.
Beginning with 18 members in 1836, MCCI has 12 expert committees and
five working committees with more than 700 members today.
The 186-year-old Chamber has been a key contributor to Tamil Nadu’s socio-
economic development all along and now recommitted to strengthen the
growth across industries in the state and the nation.
