Kozhikode, Jun 5 (UNI) Matria, an exclusive hospital for women and children here, has celebrated the World Environment Day in a befitting manner on Friday marking the decennial of its social mission, "Baby and Tree Grow Together", a unique initiative of the hospital in tree planting ventured out since its inception in 2010.
The promoters of the hospital had to cut a few trees to build the hospital. But, its patron Kadeeja Nediyil suggested to her son and founder of the hospital Dr V K.Kutty to compensate for the loss of green by planting more trees.
Not only that Dr Kutty did plant trees in the premises but went a step further by launching a campaign - gifting a mango sapling to the parents whenever a baby is born in the hospital. The parents of the new born are urged to plant and nurture the sapling.
