Massive protest outside PHQ against Delhi Police in support of Jamia students

New Delhi, Dec 15 (UNI) Students and other people gathered in large number on Sunday night outside the Old Delhi Police Headquarters building at the ITO, protesting against the police in support of the Jamia Millia Islamia students against the way how police handled the situation in the varsity area.
People gathered outside the PHQ at ITO, raising anti-Delhi Police slogans, questioning as to why the police entered the campus area and used tear gas shells at the students.
It is being said that the Jamia and the JNU students appealed to many students and the public through a Whatsapp message, to gather outside the Police Headquarters in support of the JMI and against the Delhi Police's conduct in handling the situation.
The JNU students were appealed to mobilise with immediate effect in the evening, a protestor said.
Meanwhile, on the instructions of Delhi Police, the Delhi Metro Rail Corporation has shut entry and exit points at several stations, including Sukhdev Vihar, Jamia Millia Islamia, Okhla Vihar, Jasola Vihar Shaheen Bagh, Vasant Vihar, Munirka, RK Puram, Patel Chowk, Vishwavidyalaya, GTB Nagar, Shivaji Stadium, ITO, IIT, Delhi Gate and Pragati Maidan.
Trains will not be halting at these stations, according to an official of DMRC. Meanwhile, the Gate number 3 of Ashram metro station, which was closed earlier, has been opened, he added.
Students and other people continued to gather outside the PHQ, with the number of agitators swelling up.
