Kolkata, Jan 20 (UNI) A massive fire broke out at a multi-stored building, housing a popular clothing shop and scores of outlets of fancy goods, at posh Gariahat in south Kolkata here some 20 fire fighting vehicles have been deployed to combat the flames.
Fire brigade officials said there had been no report of any human casualty when the six storied huge building caught fire at the wee hours today. They said they were informed the fire broke out at around 0100 hours.
Ladders and gas cutters were used by the fire fighting officials to enter the sources sources of blaze as the building appeared cracked on several places following the flames.
Fire brigade minister Sujit Bose visited the area to over the rescue operation, said there had been no report of any immediate casualty.
All the residents have been evacuated in the dark by the fire brigade officials, who used powerful torches and kept car headlight on during evacuation.
The fire was still razing when the report came in as the fire fighting personnel were trying to break open the windows to enter the sources of blaze.
The building, already partially damaged houses popular business house Traders Assembly.
