Market complex inaugurated for vendors and hawkers in Meghalaya

Shillong, Aug 13 (UNI) The Shillong Municipal Board (SMB) Market Complex, Polo, a state-of-the-art building designed to rehabilitate the road side vendors and hawkers of Iew Polo here in Meghalaya was inaugurated on Thursday by State Urban Affairs minister, Hamletson Dohling in the presence of health and family welfare minister MLA, A.L Hek, local MLA Adelbert Nongrum, and senior officials.
Sanctioned in the year 2010-11 at an estimated cost of Rs. 21.41 crore, the market complex has been built over an area of 3000 square meters and houses a total of 297 stalls and a food court. The project was funded by the Union Ministry of Housing and Urban Affairs, and implemented by the National Buildings Construction Corporation Limited.
Speaking on the occasion, Urban Affairs Ainister Dohling termed the inauguration of the market complex as a “fulfillment of a long awaited need”.
