Guwahati, Jul 19 (UNI) The overall flood situation in shower marginal improvement, though the death toll continued to mount as it reached 50 today.
Official sources said here that the number of affected districts has come down to 27 in the last 24 hours.
The number of affected population has also decreased to 48.87 lakh as waters receded in many parts.
With rains also subsiding over the last couple of days, water level of the major rivers was on a falling trend.
The major rivers still flowing over the danger level are Brahmaputra at Neamatighat (Jorhat), Guwahati (Kamrup), Goalpara and Dhubri; Dhansiri (S) at Numaligarh (Golaghat); Jia Bharali at N.T.Rd.Xing (Sonitpur) and Kopili at Dharamtul (Nagaon).
However, the death toll has reached 50 as 11 deaths were reported in the last 24 hours.
More than 1.47 lakh people were still taking shelter in 755 relief camps.
Meanwhile, Governor Jagdish Mukhi reviewed the flood situation in presence of Alok Kumar, Chief Secretary, and senior officials of Revenue and Disaster Management Department at the Governor house today.
