Maradu flat demolition case : UA certificates assigned to 2 buildings

Kochi, Sep 18 (UNI) In the Maradu flat demolition case, documents show that the municipal authorities had assigned "Unauthorisation Numbers" to two of the four apartment complexes, set to be demolished over violation of Coastal Regulation Zone rules.
UA certificates were given to buildings which violate construction rules. The municipality keeps separate files for regular and UA properties.
The occupancy certificates, issued to builders, were conditional and temporary.
The UA numbers were given to buildings Alpha Ventures and Jains Coral Cove in 2012.
Earlier, the three-member committee comprising Kochi collector, local self government secretary and Maradu municipal secretary have stated that the occupancy certificates were provisional.
The municipality was keeping two registers for regular number and UA number.
As per high court directive temporary numbers were issued to Golden Kayaloram in 2009 and Holy Faith H2O in 2012. But these two numbers were registered in regular number register book. This might have been deliberately done to help builders.
The owners of the flats were not informed about the approval by the builders.
The owners demanded that a detailed inquiry is needed in the matter.
They said the builders were responsible for the legal issues before the sale of apartments.
Meanwhile, a report by IIT, Chennai warns of environmental and health hazards of demolishing high rise buildings in Maradu.
The state government has to take necessary precautions against such possible dangers.
Waste and dust generated in the process have leathal impact on nature, the report said.
