Manipur govt recommends renaming of Imphal airport as Bir Tikendrajit International Airport

Imphal, Sep 21 (UNI) The Manipur Cabinet today decided to change the name of the Imphal airport from Tulihal international airport to BirTikendrajit international airport.
The state government has recommended to the Union Ministry of Civil Aviation about the matter.
M Lakshmikumar Singh, Commissioner (Transport) said the issue of development of the International Airport at Imphal was discussed in today's Cabinet meeting under the chairmanship of Chief Minister O Ibobi Singh.
Many people of Manipur had expressed their desire to name this airport after the name of one of the greatest personalities of the State as done in other major civilian airports in India such as Indira Gandhi International Airport, Delhi, Netaji Subhas Chandra Bose International Airport, Kolkata, Chattrapati Shivaji International Airport, Mumbai and Lokpriya Gopinath Bordoloi International Airport, Guwahati
Bir Tikendrajit a Manipuri prince was hanged to death on August 13, 1891 for waging war against British empire at Imphal.
