Man nabbed with Rs 1.18 cr in cash at DDU railway station in UP

Chandauli, Jan 25(UNI) Government Railway Police (GRP) has recovered cash of Rs 1.18 crore, allegedly hawala money, from a person at Deen Dayal Upadhaya ( Mugalsarai) railway station on late Friday night.

GRP sources here on Saturday said the person carrying a bag full of cash was nabbed from platform number 2 while trying to board a train to West Bengal.

The suspect was trying to evade the security personnel checking the station ahead of the Republic Day which raised suspicion.
The man has been identified as Chaman Maheshwari and during interrogation he disclosed that the cash belonged to one Rohit Jalan and he was taking it to Durgapur in West Bengal, where he was scheduled to hand it over to one Monu Das.
While Maheshwari has been taken into custody, the Income Tax sleuths have been informed about the seizure.
Further investigation was under.
