Mamata writes to President explaining about CID probe into BJP MLA's death

Mamata writes to President explaining about CID probe into BJP MLA's death

Kolkata, Jul 15 (UNI) West Bengal Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee in a letter to President

Ram Nath Kovind informed that the CID has been asked to probe the death of Legislator

Debendra Nath Roy.

It came a day after a BJP delegation demanded a CBI inquiry, alleging that their BJP

MLA was murdered in North Dinajpur district on July 13.

Ms Banerjee's letter to the President was handed over by TMC spokesman Derek

O Biren during a meeting at Rashtrapati Bhavan today, sources here said.

" Our government has taken all necessary actions immediately for comprehensive

investigation,' the CM letter said.

" I have already handed over the case to CID for proper investigation. I would like

to assure that West Bengal is a state where we always respect all political parties,

their leaders and workers. The death of our compatriot in the West Bengal Legislative

Assembly is very unfortunate. Let his soul rest in peace and let the truth unravel," the

letter, addressed to the President of India, concluded.

The Mamata Banerjee's letter followed a day after a five-member BJP delegation,

headed by Kailash Vijayvargiya, called on the President in New Delhi and sought his

intervention in "restoring democracy" in West Bengal while demanding a CBI probe

into the mysterious death of party MLA Debendra Nath Roy in North Dinajpur.

" Killing is being covered up as suicide. We demanded the President for a CBI

probe as we don't trust any agency of the Bengal government. We told that such

a govt has no right to be in power, " Mr Vijayvargiya was quoted as saying.

A postmortem report into the death of Roy said the BJP leader's death happened

by hanging from a rope.

The delegation told the President how on the 13th of July, 2020 the BJP MLA from

Hemtabad Debendra Nath Ray was "brutally murdered" near his home.

BJP's national president J P Nadda in his twitter post alleged " The suspected

heinous killing of Debendra Nath Ray, BJP MLA from Hematabad in West Bengal,

is extremely shocking and deplorable. This speaks of the Gunda Raj & failure of

law and order in the Mamata govt. People will not forgive such a govt in the future.

We strongly condemn this."

To counter this TMC Rajya Sabha member Derek O Brien also tweeted and said,

" BJP’s national president himself is also spreading fake news. He is competing

with his IT troll ring leaders. Jumping to conclusions without facts in desperation to

score political points. Instead, he would do well to stand by the deceased’s family.

Every death is a tragedy. Sad. "
